Subject: Status of Additional RACRates Models
The 2001 AR&MS tutorial notes on PRISM includes a statement "additional RACRates models are under development". Can you provide the status? What specific models are in process and are there estimated completion dates? I prefer to use RACRates models (rather than the fixed failure rates from the EPRD/NPRD databases) to more accurately reflect the thermal and operating conditions unique to our applications. However, a significant number of parts used in our designs are not covered by the existing RACRates models. This is considered a limitation of PRISM vs. MIL-HDBK-217FN2 which includes more models, albeit outdated. Appreciate the update!

The RAC is in the process of collecting data to support PRISM model development efforts. When enough data has been obtained, new models and/or existing models will be developed or updated. It is envisioned that models for connectors, inductors and transformers will be some of the first models released. The RAC collects data on a continual basis from both commercial and government resources. Data collected may be in the form of field failure data, test data (such as life test data) or failure analyses. If you are aware of data sources or have data that can aid us in these efforts, please let me know Data is accepted in any convenient format, though, electronic format such as ASCII text delimited files are preferred.
