Two Questions: 1. As a follow up to Mr. Dooley's question regarding PRISM acceptance, have international (outside the U.S.) governments or companies began to accept PRISM? 2. I have tried the Demo version of PRISM. I am curious about the Pi and Lambda factor calculations. If I buy the PRISM package, would I receive anything that explains how these factors are calculated? I compare this to a software package that uses the 217 model, like Relex. The software will perform calculations, but I can still look in 217 to determine how a factor was derived.

1. RAC PRISM software was just released this week however we have been talking with international organizations/companies on PRISM. We will be presenting at the EEE Reliability Workshop, NESCON 2000 in Noordwijk, Netherlands next week. There are discussions with several others as well as a PRISM tutorial/workshop is planned in Europe later this year. 2. Information on PRISM calculations are presented both in PRISM help and un the PRISM User Manual. All PRISM defaults including the PRISM Pi Factors are included in appendices of the PRISM User Manual. PRISM failure rate models are also presented on the PRISM failure rate screen when performing a PRISM assessment. This screen portrays the model form and the model factors used for the calculation.

I confirm the RAC talks concerning the international PRISM acceptance. I have attended at the Reliability Workshop organized by the joint CNES and Eurospace companies (CNES is the French Space Agency and Eurospace is an association of the European Space Industry). This workshop helt on the ESA premises (ESA - European Space Agency), in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. The outcomes of this workshop will be soon on the Eurospace Website. The main conclusion is to evaluate PRISM in our environment (space env) and validate the joint utilization with the telecom reliability database called RDF or UTE 80810. This last one has been chosen by us for replacing the 217 related to commercial parts. We see in the coupling of RDF and PRISM the possibility to address intrinsic failures with the RDF and extrinsic failures with PRIM. So works are in progress. The final decision should lead the writing of a new space standard on this topic.
