Subject: Rebaility Data for Electric Motors and Compressors
I am working on a project to reduce product qualification time. I am looking at accelerated life cycle testing techniques. I am seeking data(MTBF or Weibull beta's and eta's) on electric motors (DC, BLDC, Induction and SR, all <1 hp) and compressors. Any papers referring to the physics-of-failure would also be useful. Thanks

In 1977, the Shaker Research Corporation performed an indepth examination of electric motor reliability. The results of this study were reported in the technical report, RADC-TR-77-408 "Electic Motor Reliability Model", December 1977. This report was authored by Mr. D. S. Wilson and Mr. R. Smith and it includes test and field data that was analyzed to construct reliability models. Part of the analysis included the evaluation of Weibull slope or the beta parameter. The information collected indicates that winding slope at less than 125 degrees C is 1.09, at temperatures greater than 125 degrees C the slope is 2.33. The bearing slope for all temperatures was 2.88. This report may be ordered through the National Technical Information Services at 5285 Port Royal Road, Springfield, VA 22161.
