Subject: Reliability and Confidence Allocation
Message:
In many cases we need to allocate system reliability requirements down to component level. Reliability allocation is quite straight forward by using block diagram; however, what would be a good approach to allocate confidence requirement? If I demostrated reliability at 90% confidence for all components, can I calculate system reliability by using block diagram and claim 90% confidence at system level without system level testing? Any good suggestions, reference?

All allocation algorithm are base on serial configuration (AGREE, arinc, feasibility of objective technique). And they all allocate a failure rate without confidense. So I can suggest you two ways: - use a "monte carlo" simulation process, - try to allocate the low and the hight value, but you will note obtain confidence interval on the result. Good luck
