We are in process of updating reliability predictions from previous revisions of MIL-HDBK-217. Specifically from 217 Rev C, and 217 Rev F to 217 Rev F, CN2.The question is what would be the anticipated deltas in failure rate between the different models. If specific information is not available, then I would appreciate any general comments relating to this subject. We would like to use this as a sanity check for the results we are obtainig.

We at the Reliability Analysis Center have not done a specific delta failure rate change analysis for the various revisions to Mil-Hdbk-217. In general, the part failure rates have decreased with improved quality control procedures. As a rough measure, I estimated that from version "C" to "F" the equipment level failure rate would be improved by a factor of 8 and from "F" to Notice #2, the improvement would be about 2. These estimates are based on a sample of the failure rates from each book and then averaged using the part population mix as shown in the Reliability Toolkit, Commercial Practices Edition.
