Subject: Automotive electronic system failure rate
I am looking for failure rate information of electronic systems used in automotive, specifically inside the passenger compartment. What is the failure rate generally acceptable for systems like radar detector, GPS, radio, CD, etc., 0.1% per year? Also, what is the operation life time expected for those systems, 2 hours/day for 10 years, something like that? Thanks.

The RAC library has individual data on electronic parts, but no information on small system such as detectors, radios and etc. The only way to make a determination if operating data is not available, is to estimate a failure rate for each part and sum the results. The life expectancy is a function of the design, the operating conditions and the specific parts used. This information should be availabe from the vendor and their specification data.
