Subject: Defect Density & Quality Factor
Message:
If an Electronic Component is exhibiting a Defect Density of 750 ppm, what could be the Quality Factor for (a) Semiconductor (JAN or JANTX or JANTXV or What Else); (b) Microcircuit (Class B-1 or B or S or What Else) This information is for predicting a failure rate of an electronic component using MIL-HDBK-217

Semiconductors and microcricuits have not been tested by manufacturers as a defect percentatge as have resistors and capacitors. Most testing on microcircuits is based on eliminating a particular mechanism or manufacturing problem. Today's semiconductors and mirocircuits have very high yields and low field failure rates. The defect rate you show seems high, so I would be considering a very conservative quality factor for any reliability estimate such as use of commercial grade quality.
