Subject: Component Reliability Database
Since we are a relatively new company and have not gone into production with our product yet, I want to develop a component reliability database which will track system operational hours, failures, failure rates, etc., which I can then use to generate more accurate product reliability predictions. I have 2 questions: 1) Is there a canned program that I can buy which will do this for me, or will I have to generate this myself. 2) Once I establish this database, would anyone else be interested in this information?

A couple of programs that offer failure collection and reporting capabilities are listed in the RAC web site on the following page:
I can not provide a recommendation of either tool as I have not used them. The RAC is also considering the development of a database tool that would allow a user track failure data for his organization. We intend to provide the tool at no charge to our customers as long as they are willing to supply data that is integrated into this database to the RAC on a regular basis. I anticipate that the release of the RAC Database Tool will be released in the next few months. If this is of interest, please let me know. Also, let me know if you have any suggestions as to features that you would like to see in such a tool.
We would be interested in any data that you are able to provide to the RAC. The RAC has extensive databases on electronic and mechanical components and are always searching for new sources of data for these database. When necessary we can establish agreements to keep specific data or data elements proprietary. Please contact me with any questions you may have.

I know that what you ask is possible with CARE (see www.bqr.com), I think that it is also possible with Faulttree (see www.itemuk.com) and with IQ-RM (see www.apis.de) but the two last possibilities need confirmation.
You can contact me for any other questions.
