Subject: Capacitor Failure Modes
Message:
Hello, I was searching for information on the common failure modes of 33kV capacitor banks without much luck. Any expertise or knowledge in this field would be most helpful. Thanks, Paul Stokes

Message: Based on the information you have provided the failure mode conditions could be as a result of corrosion of the internal material independent of operation. Capacitors usually fail in a condition that will effect the quality of power, filtering capabilities, not causing a system fault. This is a guess and is based on the limited information provided. Additional information would help me provide more details, manufacture, type of capacitor bank, environmental conditions, age, etc. Posted by: Robert Arno (rarno@alionscience.com)
