"Reliability in Engineering Design" by Kapur and Lamberson is an excellent text and addresses mechanical systems very well. Wiley is the publisher and the ISBN is 0-471-51191-9. Anpther book was just released by CRC Press entitled "Design for Reliability". Here is a web link for further information.
