Subject: Long Term reliability Effects of "no clean" flux.
I have discovered that certain assemblies being used in a system we are designing contain "no-clean" flux. Do you have any information on the long term reliability effects of this type of flux. The items in our system containing this type of flux cannot be cleaned (for reasins I am not too sure about). The environment the items will be used in is a naval sheltered one.

Determining reliability properties of no-clean flux have been described by two existing specifications: Bellcore TR-TSY-000078 and ANSI/IPC-SF-818. For a discussion on issues governing the use of no-clean flux, look up: B. Deram, “No-Clean Flux Evaluation and Classification Methods”, International Society for Hybrid Microelectronics 1990 Proceedings, Oct. 15-17, 1990.
