Mil-hdbk-344A references parametric vs. functional testing? What are the differences in the two?

Bruce, Good one finding the difference between parametric vs. functional testing. Given one is parametric testing a piece of equipment: Does the equipment lose life/reliability if it is operated above intended environments (overstressed) or run longer than its intended mission duration, but it does not fail the parametric test? At what point should it not be put back into the field? Thanks for any insights you can share.
