Subject: Component obsolescence
The equipment suppliers are changing the military components of their equipments to commercial components.
These commercial components will not have the same MTBF. Is there any handbook for reliability prediction of these kind of components?

Commercial reliability information is often available from the vendor of the commercial off the shelf equipment(COTS). Usually, this information only relates to benign type conditions i.e. air conditioned office environments. At the RAC, we have a tool that will translate benign type conditions and determine risk factors. This tool is called "SELECT". The objective of this software tool is to quantify the estimated reliability and risk of using equipment designed for relatively benign environments in applications where the expected stresses are considerably more severe. In addition some generic equipment reliability figures of merit can be found in our "Reliability Toolkit, Commercial Practices Edition. These tools can be obtained from the RAC product catalog.
