Subject: How to define the mission time for a Ticket Vending Machine
A Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) is always in a hot standby state. It is operating when there is a transaction request. Does its mission time only include the ticket transaction time, or will the dormant time be included? Could someone recommend some reference information on reliability concepts about hot-standby component?
Thanks in advance.

First, standby is not equivalent to dormant.
If it is a hot standy, it means that the machine is ready to be used, electronics parts are operating, mechanical parts are in stanby.
I'ven't seen such reference.
You can decide that the machine is always operating it's a pessimistic point of view but if with this assumptions you can achieved your target, it's a good way to do.
As we say in france the better is ennemy of the best (le mieux est l'ennemi du bien).
