Are there any issues with the long term (upto 10 years) dormant storage of laptop computers? Hard drive sticking, etc.

That probably will not help much but we in our family got a 1983 PC (386) and an even older Mac. In the last 6 yrs both were used only intermittenly spending most of the time stored in boxes either in a house or in a shed but protected from dust. They both still power on and work when we try although the PC had a Y2K glitch. Can you treat this as field data with a sample of 2? I can't see why laptops would behave differently from desktops.

Over the past few years, the most common problem I have had with older unused computers is the cmos memory battery failing.
