Most reputable manufactures include reliability features such as: Parts Control, Stress Derating, Quality Inspections and Controls, Design Reviews, Assessments of Performance, Critical Item Identification and TESTING/TESTING/TESTING. Some of the testing parameters that are considered essential for highly reliable products include: Drop Tests, Hot and Cold Temperature Tests, Electro Static Discharge Tests, Vibration Stress Tests, Tepmerature Cycling Tests, Temperature Shock Tests and HAST (Highly Accelerated Stress Tests). These tests are usually followed by tight electrical performance measurments and detailed failure analysis if problems are developed. At the Reliability Analysis Center, we have a series of "Blueprints for Product Reliability" that describe some of these reliability features and when to apply them.
