Message: From SPAWAR system data, we obtained information on the display systems used in Navy surface war ships. The display uses a Vicor power supply. The data are 2,000,000 million plus, operating hours and three power supply failures. Using a 60% confidence one sided interval, the mean time between failure [MTBF] is 510,000 hours. A prediction on the power supply for a ship board environment is 356,000 hours MTBF. A ground military environment prediction reveals a MTBF of 832,000 hours. Since the environment for ship board equipment is more severe then ground fixed, I would expect that a value greater than the 510,000 hours should be achievable for the ground.
