These parameters need to be estimated based on the internal maintenance policy and procedures applicable to the system being modeled. For hardware, the availability of spares is also an important consideration. The restoration, or repair rate, used in the Markov model is the reciprocal of the mean corrective maintenance time required to correct either a hardware or software failure.
