Subject: RCM in electronics??
RCM concepts builds around OCM and the checking interval depends on the Potential Failure Interval. It is only true for mechanical systems where failure modes exhibit warning signs when they are about to transform to potential failure. In view of this, can RCM or OCM be applied to electronics as well? Please advise

Some electronic components are possible candidates for on condition monitoring and reliability centered maintenance. These components include: cathode ray tubes (phosphor depletion), power amplifier tubes (cathode depletion), relays (contact wear or bounce), switches (contact wear), connectors (contact wear), transformers (winding hot spots). Most all other electronic components have wear-out phenomena but are either too difficult to determine or are not expected to occur in the normal working life of the unit.
