Subject: Relibility of Drive Belts
Message:
Hi. Does anyone know of a reliability model for drive belts? I realize they are listed in NPRD-95 but am hoping for a model that can predict life with stress parameters. Thanks!

Please accept my apologies for this slightly commercial message, but this reference is relevant, and there may not be free alternatives that include stress. You will find other people who have worked on belt reliability with a Google search. See ($12.50 or $9.60 to SAE members) SAE document 972587 by Ron Salzman (Ford) and Scott Ciemniecki (Gates) for a simulation and prediction methodology for MTBF and perhaps age-specific reliability. I don't have the article, but I recall that it was a rather elaborate prediction model that may have included stress. (Ron S. and I worked at LLNL a long time ago.) If you are interested in the age-specific field reliability (not predictions) of Gates belts, contact me.
