Hi, Does anybody have a failure rate for a CCD Linear Image Sensor? If not, does anybody know of a way of estimating the MTBF of a CCD (charge coupled device)? Thanks for all the responses.

Charge Coupled Devices (CCD) appear to have a lack of supporting reliability data. The RAC library had several old reports from the 1970s, but nothing new. The users and the manufacturers have not released any information available to the RAC. The web does not show any data.The best reference that I found was a report by Dave Litwiller from the Photonics Spectra, January 2001, which suggested that the reliability of a CCD is equivalent to complementary metal oxide semiconductor image sensor devices in most industrial applications. In rugged environments, CMOS imagers have an advantage because all circuit functions can be placed on a singe integrated circuit chip, minimizing leads and solder joints. Given this, I would suggest that you consider the use of a CMOS reliability model to estimate the reliability until you can obtain test or operating data on the actual device.
