Subject: Fan Failure Rate
Message:
I am looking for fan failure rate data. It has always been my general observation that fans really don't fail, their bearings just get worn and they start making a lot of noise. If you have any insight on the nature of fan reliability prediction, I would be very interested.

I suggest going to some of the major fan manufacturer's web sites. Many will give you two types of data: L10 and L50 for wearout and random for fans that have other parts, such as speed and temperature sensors as part of the assembly. With the L10 and L50 points, you can construct a f/r distribution and then decide when to replace the fans or a probability of failure at some time T. Joe
