Subject: MTBF assurance testing
Dear Sir: The MTBF assurance testing method is provided by MIL-HDBK-781. I do not understand its principle and engineering application. Would you offer the articles, your experience or research information? Thank you very much for your help. Zhili Kuang

An excellent source of information on reliability demonstrations is the updated MIL-HDBK-338, Electronic Reliability Design Handbook. In section 8.4, demonstration methods and uses are described in detail including the underlying assumptions and hypothesis. Risk factors and sample size are discussed along with accept and reject criteria. Another source that could be helpful, if you want the basics for testing, is a book by Dr. Dimitri Kececioglu called "Reliability & Life Testing Handbook (Prentice Hall 1993). also, Mr. N. Balakrishnan edited a book called "Reliability & Maintainability of Electronic Systems (CRC Press 1995)that has a section on reliability testing.
