In general, electric motors are modeled for reliability considering the two most common failure causes which are winding and bearing failures. Mil-Hdbk-217 has reliability models for these two failure conditions and are based on the wear-out characteristics for each of the failure modes. If control electronics are included with the motor, then a reliability analysis of the electronic components or use of reliability test data needs to be accomplished. Electronic component failure rates are avialable from many sources including the RAC's Electronic Reliability Parts Data Book.
